The Timco Wing-Tip Self-Drilling Screws 5.5 x 50mm are designed for secure timber-to-steel fastening, suitable for light-section steel up to 5mm thick. The innovative wing-tip design creates a clearance hole in the timber before breaking away on contact with steel, enabling efficient drilling and reliable self-tapping. Made from hardened carbon steel with a bright zinc-plated finish, these countersunk screws provide durability and a flush finish, with a PH3 screwdriver bit included.
Features:
Timber-to-Steel Fastening: Specially designed to seamlessly attach wood to light-section steel with a maximum thickness of 5mm.
Clever Wing-Tip Design: The integrated wings ream out a clearance hole in the timber. This allows the drill to reach maximum RPM quickly without burning out the motor or binding.
Break-Off Breakaway Mechanism: Once the wings make contact with the underlying steel substrate, they cleanly snap off. This shifts the screw into self-tapping mode to thread directly into the metal frame.
Flush Countersunk Finish: Features a countersunk head equipped with underlying ribs. This design self-embeds cleanly into the timber to leave a smooth, flat surface finish.
Heavy-Duty Construction: Manufactured from case- and core-hardened carbon steel for strong structural durability. They are finished with a bright zinc plating (BZP) to resist standard atmospheric corrosion.
